Christmas Lips: The Red Lipsticks Sequel

Back in April, I wrote a post on red lipsticks after reading a feature in British Vogue. Now although I have already written about red lipsticks, there is only one lip colour we associate with Christmas and that is red. So I wondered how would this post be different and I realised that since this post, I have got some new red lipsticks in my life and that I have got rid of a lot of the ones that I featured in the original post. Also it's Christmas so many people will want to wear the perfect red lip to parties or just to keep up with the festive spirit!

Life Of A Beauty Nerd - Christmas Reds
I thought I would start with the lipsticks that were featured in the last post.

First up is the iconic Ruby Woo. If you are a lipstick addict like myself, you need this in your collection. It is a gorgeous blue-toned red that has probably the best staying power out of all the ‘traditional’ lipsticks I own.

The other lipstick that appeared in the original post was the L'Oreal Color Riche in Julianne's Pure Red. This was a ‘Saw It, Bought It’ purchases in Boots. It is quite a bright red and out of all the red lipsticks, has the creamiest formula so it can be a bit fiddly to apply.

I think this would look gorgeous against a white outfit as it would stand out so much.

Although, anyone who wears white on Christmas day will either be called an angel all day or spend the day trying to avoid Christmas dinner spillages!

Now it is probably no surprise to any regular readers of my blog that the rest of the lipsticks in this post are liquid lipsticks.

I have a problem.

There should be a drinking game for every time that I have mentioned the NARS Powermatte lip pigments on this blog but I can’t help it! Don’t Stop is beautiful and whilst it is slightly more difficult to apply than the other colours (I think that’s just because some of mine spilt out of the top so it’s a bit messy), the formula is amazing and I know it will last.

The Barry M Matte Me Up Liquid Lip Paint in Paparazzi is a good drugstore dupe for the Powermatte. Whilst it is not as comfortable as the NARS, for £4.99, it’s pretty darn good.

In the original post, I also featured reds that aren’t considered true reds and I decided to do the same with this post. This time, with dark reds to fit the winter season.

Anyone who wears matte lipsticks has probably tried the Bourjois Velvet Mattes. I have always not minded the feeling of the Velvet Mattes once they have dried and Grand Cru is a gorgeous deep red which I have worn many times over the years.

It is one that needs to be layered and as it has a mousse texture, a lip liner is helpful to ensure a nice shape on the lips.

In terms of texture, the Loreal Infallible Lip Paint Matte in Apocalypse Red is very similar, except I find the Loreal one never fully dries down like the Bourjois. However, it still lasts reasonably well so it might be a great option for people who want to try matte liquid lipsticks but don’t like dry formulations.

Since I took the photograph, I have realised that there are some I forgot to include such as the Topshop lipstick in Hazard but that is it in the original post!

I hope you liked reading this post, I always like to wear a red lip on Christmas so it’s going to be tough to choose one. What are you being to wearing on your lips this Christmas, let me know in the comments!
