August Birchbox: Mermaid Vibes

My first Birchbox subscription has finished and I am excited to be continuing with another and writing up these posts for you! This month's box was inspired by the Mermaid trend and I think they have done a really beautiful job with the box! The products I received this month are a real mixture of brands I have heard of, formulas I have not heard of and products I can't wait to try! On a side note, I picked up some more candles from IKEA in new colours to use in my flat-lays and I am loving them so far! The candle in this picture is Blackberry and it smells amazing! How many photographs can I get with this in the background before I absolutely have to start burning it!

Spectrum Collections A05 Brush in Bomb Shell
This pretty hand-finished brush makes light work of your make-up (whether that's setting powder, shimmery highlighters, or your fave bronzer) thanks to its precisely-shaped tip and soft tapered bristles
This was the product that we got to choose what shade for this month. I will say, I didn't really love either of the options but out of the two this does fit better aesthetically. The brush feels really soft and I am looking forward to using it on the skin. This is the second brush from Spectrum that I have got through Birchbox and I am really impressed with the brand as a whole. I also think that they are very reasonably priced and good quality.

LOC One and Done Shadow Stick in Rock Steady
We created this nifty formula in-house to deliver up to 11 hours of creaseless, waterproof colour - without the need for multiple brushes, blenders and primers
One of my go-to evening eye makeup looks is using my Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon eye pencil. I am interested to give this a go to see how it compares, as it is much cheaper so it has the potential to be an excellent dupe. There were two colour options available and out of the two, I definitely prefer the one I received as I think I will get a lot more wear out of it than the other shade which was more of a pearly white shade.

Number 4™ Sugar Texturizing Spray
Formulated with sugar cane, this spray hits the sweet spot when it comes to hair with oomph. It creates loose, shiny waves without any crunch, Plus, your style will stay put through heat and humidity
Texturising sprays are very popular within the beauty community but I have never seen a sugar-based spray. I don't tend to use texturising sprays as I have very thick hair naturally but it will be interesting to give this a go. When you read this, I will be on holiday so I will take this with me to see if it helps with styling my hair for evening meals out after a day at the beach!

Merci Handy Antibacterial Hand Cleansing Gel in Coco Rico
Our hard-working hands so a lot of work for us, so it's important to keep them healthy. Enter: this bacteria-busting hand gel. Plus, it's packed with vitamins to hydrate and nourish too
I found it hilarious that this came in my box as I have just been writing about this product in a news piece for my internship! This is the perfect size for a bag and great for on-the-go. The hand gels also come in quite a few different scents so you should be able to find one that works for you!

Sebamed Clear Face Mattifying Cream
A matte complexion doesn't have to mean a stropped one. This lotion contains hyaluronic acid and aloe vera to hydrate alongside maintaining a healthy pH level of 5.5 for shine-free happy skin
This is the product I am most excited to try from this box, and probably ever! It is a skincare product that is made for me - I have dehydrated skin that can look a little shiny so I prefer a matte finish to my makeup but on days when I am not wearing makeup, I don't like how my skin looks. This cream contains hyaluronic acid which is fantastic for hydrating the skin and is something I look for in my skincare. So I have a cream that will hydrate my skin, but keep it looking matte. Perfect!

I hope you enjoyed this month's Birchbox products, I am really interested in giving these all a go so if there is anything you would be interested in hearing about how it worked out for me please let me know in the comments!

Ellyn xx

  3. I've not tried a beauty subscription box yet. Are they actually worth the money?
