May Birchbox: It's All In The Details

May is my favourite month of the year, now this is mainly because my birthday is this month (actually on Friday!) but it is also the last month of spring and hopefully the weather starts to warm up! The start of another month also means another Birchbox! As my April Birchbox post was so popular I thought I would continue to post each month! Before I start on what products came in my box, how beautiful is the design! It has marble, copper and the draw insert is baby pink/peach - could it get any more blogger!

Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Fifty Shades
"Add a demure wash of colour or a full-on smokey effect to your eyes with this pigmented mineral shadow. It’s beautifully soft and made from all-natural ingredients (so it’s great for sensitive eyes, too!)"
Marsk mineral eyeshadow was the full size product that all Birchbox UK subscribers received this month and I chose the shade Fifty Shades which guess what.. is grey! I haven’t tried this out on my eyes yet but I have swatched it and it does look pretty good! When I swatched it with just my finger, it is more concentrated and is more of a gunmetal shade. I also did a swatch with a dense eyeshadow brush and it was just a nice dusting of grey eyeshadow which would make this a great addition in your makeup bag to take day makeup to night makeup with one eyeshadow.

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara
"Sometimes only big lashes will do! Thanks to its jumbo fibre wand, this mascara defines each individual lash – adding volume and thickness to mimic even your best set of falsies"
This mascara was exclusive to Birchbox and I have never heard of this brand. I have very short eyelashes and the wand on this tester size is huge! Mascaras are always a bit hit and miss for me because I have very short eyelashes but hopefully this will be alright. It is a good size for a travel makeup bag though!

Benefit Cosmetics the POREfessional: Matte Rescue
"We know that excess oil is one of your major skincare concerns, so it’s time to bring things into balance with this water-based gel. It absorbs oils and glides over pores for naturally matte results"
Benefit has been one of my favourite brands for many years and I was very excited to see one of their products in my box! The POREfessional range from Benefit is very successful and the Matte Rescue is the latest addition to the range. First off, this product smells amazing! It smells like the Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Body Sorbet and ‘traditional’ men’s aftershave. It applies really nicely to the skin and does give you a matte finish. I do not have super oily skin so I cannot say how well it works for oil control but it is a great lightweight product for getting a matte finish.

Kueshi Hair Mask Shine & Volume
"Show stressed-out hair some love with this nourishing treatment. Containing strengthening rice protein, hydrating jojoba oil, and moisturising shea butter, it protects and adds shine to all hair types"
I have very thick hair and I love any hair products that would give it some hydration. I have used this mask once so far and I don’t know how I feel about it. I used it after shampoo and conditioner and it says to wait three minutes before rinsing. It says to apply it to freshly washed hair but I felt like I was just standing around in the shower wasting time. Whenever I apply conditioner to my hair on normal washes, I always wait a few minutes anyway and this is when I would use my body wash. I am going to try this again instead of conditioner and see if that makes a difference. It did make my hair feel soft but it is quite a heavy formula so it might not work on thinner hair.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Primer
"Tired of your lipstick flaking off halfway through the day? This product will prep your lips to help colour stay in place for longer. Plus, vitamin E and peppermint oil guarantees all-day hydration"
I have not tried this yet under lipstick but it does feel really nicely on the lips. I don’t really have much trouble with lasting lipsticks when I am wearing lip-liner so I might try this with my ‘in-a-rush’ lipsticks to see if this makes a difference. It does feel really nice on the lips and even when wearing it alone, it does not feel drying or leave a drying finish.

So that was what was inside my Birchbox this month - I would love to know if you have tried any of these products and what your thoughts are!

Ellyn xx
