October Birchbox - Reach For The Stars

As soon as I started typing the name of this month's box, I couldn't help but continue in my head - 'climb every mountain higher'. Shout-out to all the S Club 7 generation out there! The design for this month's box is absolutely stunning, it reminded me of Amanda Rach Lee's bullet journal spread for this month, and one of the wallpaper that she designed for her collaboration with The Sorry Girls. This month, Birchbox are supporting Look Good Feel Better as October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout the month, Birchbox will be sharing content from LGFB. The charity offers help and support to help people with the visible and emotional side effects of cancer treatment with free workshops, printed materials and online tutorials. Let's see what's inside this month's box.

Nobody wants lacklustre hair – it's our crowning glory after all – so it's a good job we have 'The Hair Doctor' Philip Kingsley and his brand's super heritage at our disposable. Step forward the Body Building Shampoo. Enhanced with keratin proteins and natural cellulose, it improves the hair's strength and condition as well as thickening the appearance of each strand. Perfect for adding volume and shine to flyway locks.

I have tried a few products from Philip Kingsley and have really enjoyed them - especially the Elasticiser. However, as someone who already has naturally thick hair that can frizz, I don’t think a volumising shampoo will work. I will pass this on to someone who will get use out of it.

We love a product that can perform a multitude of magic tricks, and this one from This Works does even more than we could hope for – it’s a mask, moisturiser, and a primer in a flash, so you're photo-ready at all times! Formulated using a super-blend of ingredients, including their innovative Bio Boost complex, it's brimming with antioxidant plant oils to protect the skin, hydrating hyaluronic acid, and revitalising caffeine to revitalise even the most tired complexions. Use it whenever your skin needs a little boost to instantly reduce redness, boost radiance, and diminish the appearance of wrinkles. Ready for your close up?

Everything I have tried from This Works, I have loved. The pillow spray, amazing and actually works! The Evening Detox spray, feels very gentle on the skin. So do I have high expectations for this product - yes! The premise sounds interesting, and could be great for when you are in a rush. It’s also got hyaluronic acid in it which is always a plus!

Liquid eyeliner baffles so many of us, but using a felt-tip marker? Now that’s something we can handle! Specially formulated with jet-black pigment that won’t smudge, fade, or budge, the innovative marker application easily applies a sleek line to eyelids. So, whether you’re a newbie or a pro, even those of us with the shakiest of hands can master all of our favourite liner looks.

I very rarely do my makeup without a cat-eye flick, and a felt-tip marker is my weapon of choice. I am still very much in love with my Benefit Roller Liner, so it will be interesting to see what this brings to the table. Either way, I will already have a back-up eyeliner!

Ideal for dry, stressed out skin, this uber-relaxing eye mask contains a crew of hardworking ingredients, including centella (for its healing benefits), amino acids (to strengthen your skin) and hyaluronic acid (to deeply hydrate). It's the perfect way to end the day.

I’ve got a few eye masks at home and I’ve still yet to try any of them. I am planning a blog post featuring lots of masks, inspired by an article I read so I will add this to the list. It has hyaluronic acid in it, so I’m almost guaranteed to enjoy it!

Take a step closer to a green bathroom with these reusable makeup removers (just one replaces over 400 single-use cotton pads!). They sweep away all traces of makeup, dirt and impurities and can be used time and time again. No need to rub or scrub - just soak them in water or add your favourite cleanser.

Slowly but surely, it is getting easier to reduce the amount of single-use products we use in our everyday lives. Whilst I will use a bag-for-life/tote bag, my beauty life still involves the use of cotton pads. I am interested in trying this out to see if it really works. However as there are only two, and I wear makeup quite a lot, I would probably invest in a few so I always have at least one available to use.

Have you tried any of these products?

Ellyn xx
