Spring & Summer Make-Up Trend: Red, Orange and Pink

Make-up trends and I have a mixed relationship. Sometimes I am all over trends, other times I do not understand how it is a trend and do not take part in it. This autumn/winter, a major fashion trend was red.  Now we are entering spring/summer, red is still around but more so in beauty alongside oranges and pinks. Previously, I would only ever wear these shades in lipstick or nail polish and only peachy or dusty pink blushes. However, recently I have noticed that there is more of a mixture of make-up products that feature these colours, and that I actually like.

Spring & Summer Make-Up Trend: Red, Orange and Pink - Life Of A Beauty Nerd
Red
As I mentioned, the main appearance of these colours in my make-up life is in lipstick and nail polish. Especially red. Red is such a classic colour, it is a shade that I think looks good on everyone. My favourite classic reds in my collection are Essie Nail Lacquer in Fifth Avenue, and of course the ultimate red lipstick: MAC Ruby Woo.

I've been wearing both of these for years, and even though I have other red lipsticks and nail polishes, I will always come back to these two. Recently, the only other red lipstick that I have been wearing that is not Ruby Woo, its the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment in Don't Stop. That's all I will say about that. We all know how I feel about these liquid lipsticks.

When I first got into make-up, I used to have a whole rainbow selection of Barry M Dazzle Dusts including the matte red. I have no idea why I had it. I don't think I ever used it. With the launch of the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette last year, I have been wearing more red tones. The palette contains
three red-tones: He Devil, Dirty Talk and Scorched.

I guess that for me, it is about red-tones, not necessarily just red eyeshadow.

Orange
Now this is a little misleading. There is not actually any orange make-up in this post. By that I mean proper orange. The main source of orange-tones in this post are from the Naked Heat. I love this palette so much and I think the terracottas and copper shades are my favourites and most worn.

Now I wasn't sure whether to include this as I guess it isn't really orange. It's the Barry M Dazzle Dust in Bronze. I have rediscovered this recently and I had completely forgotten how gorgeous it looks on the eyes. It does have a slight orange tone to it - let me know in the comments whether you would consider this an orange tone.

On myself, I have found orange lipsticks can look a little strange. I'm not really sure why. However, I was given one of the NYX Professional Make-Up Soft Matte Lip Cream Vaults as a gift and my lipstick collection has exploded because of this. There are so many shades I have not tried and this orange shade Dallas is one of the shades I want to try. I think the SMLC are a great drugstore liquid lipstick.

Pinks
I have a mixed relationship with the colour pink. I love my very pale pink coat, I love red-pink lipsticks but true pink, it definitely a colour I would stay away from.

My favourite pink make-up product that I own is the Topshop lipstick in All About Me which I am not sure if it still available still. It is a gorgeous bright red-pink which applies really nicely but has a great long-lasting matte finish. The other 'pink' lipsticks I will wear are definitely more on the nude end (for my skin-tone). Of course, this includes the Powermatte in American Woman, and also the L'Oreal Infallible Lip Paint Matte in Hollywood Beige.

In the spring and summer, I do like wearing shades of pink nail polish. Mostly corals. Last summer, my two most worn pink nail polishes (which were both corals) were Essie Nail Lacquer in Cute As A Button and the O.P.I Nail Polish in Bright Lights - Big Color. The main difference is the O.P.I shade has gold shimmer running through it.

They both look gorgeous on the nails during the summer months.

Most of the blushes I own are pink but as I use them all year round, it doesn't really feel like a trend. I have included Benefit GALifornia as the main representation. However, there is one other blusher up there. In my most recent Birchbox, I received the LACA & Co. B'Lighter Blush & Highlighter. It is a cream blush, there's no way I would use this as a highlighter - far too pink. So far, its not too bad. It is easier to blend with a brush, and if it feels too much, it was easy to tone down.

These are the make-up products that I plan on wearing this spring and summer to explore this red, pink and orange colour trend! How do you feel about make-up trends?

  2. All of these products sound amazing. I haven't tried the Nars Powermatte liquid lipsticks yet but the colour selection is beautiful (and can we just take a minute for the packaging too?!) Also I really need to get the naked heat! The shades are so me! I don't know why it's taken me so long to jump on that bandwagon!

    1. You really should try the Powermattes! If I could, I would happily own the entire collection! I've used the Naked Heat palette so much since I got it, it is definitely worth the money.

  3. I have been eyeing the naked head palette for a while now. I might just have to splurge and get it! I really love the colors and it seems like it's going to work with all the new products this spring.
