Long-Lasting Lipsticks For Valentine's Day

It is a less than a week till Valentine's Day. Now if you are lucky enough to be spending this day with a loved one, you should have a lipstick that will stay on so you look fabulous all night. In this post, I am going to be talking about my favourite long-lasting lipsticks that I would rock on Valentine's Day or for any important event. I am also including some of my top tips that I always follow when doing my lip make-up.

Long-Lasting Lipsticks For Valentine's Day - Life Of A Beauty Nerd
Before I get into talking about my favourite long-lasting lipsticks, I thought I would offer my tips for helping any lipstick last a little longer.

You should always keep your lips moisturised before you do your make-up. Lipstick over dry lips will be extremely uncomfortable. It also helps to provide a smooth base for applying make-up.

Personally, I can never do any lip make-up without a lip-liner. It even helps lipsticks that are rubbish at lasting, last longer. Lip-liner provides a great base for lipstick and perfect the lip shape as well. My favourite lip-liners are the MAC lip-liners, the NYX Retractable Lip Liners and the Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses lip-liners

In terms of lipsticks, I would always recommend matte formulas. They do not rub off as easily and if you are willing to stick through wearing them, they will be perfect.

As frequent readers will know, the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments are my go-to liquid lipstick formula. They are easy to apply, last really well through food and drink (even the nude shade American Woman).

Now the 'traditional' lip colours that we see promoted around Valentine's Day are red and pink. The Powermattes have a great variety of different reds and pink tones so there is a colour out there to suit everyone. I have the shades Don't Stop and American Woman - but who says you have to stick to traditional shades?

I love the two other shades that I own - the gorgeous purple Warm Leatherette and deep dark brown Done It Again. I would quite happily wear this two shades, I think it shows confidence and individuality.

If you are not a fan of liquid lipstick and prefer the traditional lipstick bullet, my favourite matte lipsticks for long-lasting lips are from MAC.

Of course, this includes the classic Ruby Woo for red and my more recent favourite matte lipstick from MAC, Antique Velvet

I have never had a problem with these two lip colours coming off or smudging. They are also really easy to apply so even with their pigmented colour, you do not need to worry about messing it up.

I like to use Chestnut lip pencil when wearing Antique Velvet and I often will use the Rimmel 1000 Kisses lip pencil under Ruby Woo.

Although these are long-lasting, I will always take the lip colour and lip pencil with me, just in case it needs to be perfected.

So these are my favourite long-lasting lipsticks and my tips on helping them last even longer! Remember, it is important to love yourself first, and if you do not have a date this Valentine's, who cares! I am all for the self-love for 2018!
