Five Favourites: September 2018

Monthly favourites are quite a regular feature on many of the beauty bloggers and influencers blogs/YouTube channels that I follow, but as I don’t buy or receive lots of different products to try, it can be easier to stick with what you know. However recently, I have been trying out more things that I have bought and re-discovered an old favourite so I thought I would bring back my Five Favourites post. There is also a mix of price points in the post so hopefully there is a product that everyone can try!

Felt-tip eyeliners can always be a bit hit and miss. The first time they work great, but then the pigment can sometimes be too liquid or not pigmented enough for every other use. As someone who wears eyeliner every time I do my make-up, I need an eyeliner that is going to last, and stay as pigmented for as long as possible. I’ve tried a few from different price points, and whilst some have been better that others, I wasn’t finding the right one..

Until now! I have been using this ASOS eyeliner pretty much every day since it arrived and it is just as good as the first time I used it. Now I know that it is still less than a month but compared to all the others I have tried before - that is pretty darn good! I will admit that I have not tried it much over shimmery eyeshadows, but I hardly use those anyways, and I find gel eyeliners are better for use over shimmery eyeshadows anyway.

Finally, it is also only £6! That is a brilliant price for such great quality. It is also vegan and cruelty-free, so there really is no reason not to give this bad boy a go!

I have bought many items thanks to other bloggers and beauty influencers, but my favourite purchase of them all has to be the Smashox Primerizer. As you may know if you’ve read any of my previous posts, I bought the travel size of this product as it was constantly raved about by The Anna Edit and Allana Davison. When I was at the Smashbox event that Anna held with Lily Pebbles (read my blog post here), we were all given a full size of Primerizer - I’m stocked for months now!

Not only is the one of the best primers at keeping my base make-up on (which is basically the purpose of a primer) but it also gives the most natural glow, even better than any highlighter I have used. I have been wearing this alone, mixed with foundation and together. It is amazing.

Benefit Box O’ Powder in Gold Rush
It is not a secret that I am a fan of Benefit make-up. Alongside They’re Real Mascara, I love their box powders. I’ve used Hoola for years, and over the last year, Galifornia has become one of my most years blushes. But, I’m afraid during the cooler months, one of it’s sisters might take its spotlight. In this month’s Birchbox, I recieved a sample size of the Gold Rush Box O’ Powder.

Now I will admit that when I have seen this in store, I would not necessary have picked it out. But since trying this, I would definitely purchase the full size. It is more of a muted, almost light rose shade and it just looks beautiful on the skin. It has shimmer, but it is quite subtle and just helps add a gorgeous look to the skin.

Superdrug Simply Pure Light Emulsion Moisturiser
Whilst I have been much better at sticking to a morning skincare routine, I had not found a moisturiser that I truly loved for quite a while. I like to go for moisturisers that are hydrating, as my skin is dehydrated but they can often be quite heavy, which is fine for the evening, but not in the morning when I don’t always have a lot of time to wait between putting it on and then doing my make-up.

I really love the serums from this range and I have tried a moisturiser from the range before but I didn’t love it, but I had not seen this particular one before, so I thought I might as well try it. It is so nice. Whilst it is a light formula, you still feel the hydration going into your skin. Like the rest of the range, it is vegan, cruelty-free and inexpensive. A great example of how you should buy skincare for ingredients and not the brand.

Chloe Eau De Parfum
This was the first ‘big girl’ proper perfume that I ever had. Ever since my first bottle of Chloe, I have always been attracted to rose-based perfumes. Whilst in the last few years I have been having a moment with the Rosie By Autograph Nuit Eau Parfum and Jo Malone’s Velvet Rose & Oud perfume, I have recently come back to Chloe and it has just been a great re-appreciation of such a classic fragrance.

It lasts really well and once again, when people smell it, they know it’s me wearing it. Obviously I mean people I know, I would be a bit creeped out if a stranger immediately knew it was me wearing it.

These are my five favourites from this month. It has been forever since I did one of these posts. Whilst I might not do one every single month, it gives me the opportunity to discover or re-discover products to recommend.

What have been your favourite products of the month?

Ellyn xx

  1. I've been on the fence about the ASOS eyeliner, as I'd not read any reviews. Think I might give it a try now!
