Autumn Makeup Switch-Ups: Lipsticks

Although I don’t necessarily believe that we must stick to certain trends, there are some makeup products which I only find myself drawn too in certain seasons. One of my favourite seasonal switch-ups is going from summer to autumn. The main changes is going from brighter lipsticks, to darker shades such as dark browns and purples. Whilst I have written this type of post before, I thought instead I would focus the writing more on myself, as what make-up we choose to wear is very personal. However I do love all these products and if they are still available, I will link them.

Like I said above, the main switch up in my autumn make-up is with my lipsticks. A few years ago, I started to wear much darker lipsticks than I was used too, and now I am all about them. Although, even within the dark lipstick genre, I still tend to stick too dark browns and purples - although I now own a navy and a dark green, might have to pull those out too!

MAC Antique Velvet
Dark browns are probably my favourite of the two. I've said this many times but it was after watching this video by Jessie from sunbeamsjess wearing the combination of M.A.C Antique Velvet lipstick and Chestnut lip pencil and I bought them both almost straight away. When I wear this lip combination, I tend to wear my hair up as I already have quite dark hair and against my skin-tone, it can look a little too much if I had my hair down. Antique Velvet has a matte finish but is not as drying as other matte formulas from M.A.C like Ruby Woo.

NARS Powermatte Liquid Lipstick in Done It Again
The NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments are still one of my favourite liquid lipstick formulas to date and Done It Again is probably my second favourite behind American Woman. In terms of the colour finish, it is very similar to Antique Velvet, in fact I would say that it is basically the liquid version. Because it is so dark, it is probably one of the most fiddly to put on, so I always line my lips first to give me the outline, again using Chesnut lip pencil.

Whilst on my skin-tone these are bold lipsticks, I think that these could be great nude options for darker skin-tones, a lipstick is good when it can work on everybody!

INC.redible Matte My Day Liquid Lipstick Fake it till I Make it
I love this colour. It is the perfect mix between a light burgundy red and a purple. It also is not too warm or too cool and I think that this colour would look gorgeous on all skin-tones.
At first, I did find it a little tricky to apply. I found that I had to apply a blob of product and not blend it out too much otherwise the brush would just pick it up straight away. Once the product starts to dry or you have enough on the lips, it blends out much better. It dries relatively quickly and gives a gorgeous matte finish. It does dry a little darker but not too much. For me, it is not the worst texture once it is dry but I wear a lot of matte lipsticks so I don't mind the drier finishes. It is not the driest liquid lipstick formula that I have in my collection but it does feel a little dry on the lips. Man that was a lot of dry.

NARS Powermatte Liquid Lipstick in Warm Leatherette
This is one of the slightly bolder purple lipsticks that I own, it is also slightly warmer. As much as I love it, out of all of these lipsticks, it is probably the hardest to wear - but I love a challenge! I also think this is a shade that could work on everyone, if you have the confidence to wear it. Like Done It Again, it is a little fiddly but I’ve got to grips with it, just have to make sure I don’t end up with any on my teeth! I think coloured lipsticks are becoming more and more popular in mainstream beauty, so it is about time that I bring this out of a lapse of unintentional retirement!

So these are some of the lipsticks that I am determined to wear this autumn! I would love to know what lipsticks you want to be wearing this autumn, whether you make a change to bolder colours or you don’t care about changing up colours for seasons. Also, any chance to try new lipsticks!
