A Trip To The Birchbox Pop-Up Shop

Last Friday after a work event in Central London, the lovely Stefan from the blog HOWSTE and I took a trip down to the Birchbox pop-up shop on Carnaby Street. I have been a Birchbox subscriber since February and I absolutely love it so I was very excited to pop in. The store is absolutely beautiful and fits perfectly into the aesthetic design of Carnaby Street. Now obviously if you go into the store, you can make your own Birchbox. The cost to create your own box was £15 but as I am a subscriber, I got 15% off so I only paid £12.75 which I believe is around the normal cost of box each month including the postage. Even so, for £15 - I would say it's a pretty good deal.

Birchbox Pop Up - Life Of A Beauty Nerd
To fill your box, there were 15 items divided into five categories in which you chose one from each. So just like in a normal box, you end up with five items. There were two make-up categories, two skincare/body categories and one hair category. There were a great variety of brands to try, from well-known to one I had heard of from previous boxes and a couple I had not heard of.

Although I have already done my Birchbox post for this month, I thought I would still show you I chose for my box in the same style as my normal posts.

The box design was the same as the May box which is a beautiful marble with gold accents but this time, came with a mint green tray insert that said 'With Love'. The bag they gave you to take your box home in was also a white marble design with a mint green ribbon.

Let's see what I chose for my box!

Spectrum Collections Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge
The clever folks at Spectrum Collections clearly know that two heads (or, in this case, ends) are better than one! This latex-free tool has been specially created with a rounded edge and a pointed tip, making it the ultimate multi-purpose tool for applying your favourite cream, mineral, and liquid products. Perfect for achieving that flawless make-up look that we’re always striving for, it blends in products effortlessly for a seamless finish.
I really love my Real Techniques sponges but I am going to be honest with you. I am terrible at washing them. I know, it's gross. So I decided to get the Spectrum sponge as a pro-active decision to clean my make-up sponges more regularly, but still always have one available to use.

I have received Spectrum brushes from my Birchboxes before so I have high expectations for this. On the Birchbox website, it is available in both pink and lilac which I would have preferred but that was not available at the pop-up.

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara
This sickle-shaped wand creates the perfect amount of curl, with a thick, rounded brush to fully coat lashes, while the water-resistant formula lasts for 12 hours. Plus, it comes with the Eyeko Shield, a unique guitar-pick shaped tool that helps prevent smudging. The paraben-free formula is infused with keratin and shea butter, strengthening and conditioning lashes so they don’t break as often.
You are meant to throw out your mascara every three months and although I don't always do that, I really should. I also have basically non-existent eyelashes so having a few different mascaras with different wand shapes helps give my lashes a bit of a boost.

This is also a travel-size which I find really useful as there has been a few times when I have needed to take only one bag for all my toiletries and make-up and having smaller products helps with space. Eyeko is still a fairly new brand to me in terms of trying products but I have loved what I have tried thus far so I am looking forward to trying this.

Lumene Lähde Intense Hydration 24H Moisturiser
*I could not find this on the Birchbox website so the description below comes from the Feel Unique website*
The fresh, light-weight cream is quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving it soft, smooth and intensely hydrated from the very first application. Contains Pure Arctic Spring Water to promote a healthy-looking complexion, replenishing Organic Nordic Birch Sap and the Hydra-Technology, supporting continuous hydration throughout the day.
I am always looking for skincare that provides hydration for my skin. I am still pretty rubbish at remembering to drink enough water so anything that can give my skin some more hydration is excellent in my book.

I have not heard of this brand but I believe it is a Finnish (if not, definitely one of the Nordic countries) brand and looking at some reviews on Feel Unique, this moisturiser seems really popular. It is also suitable for vegans and vegetarians so everyone can use it!

Rituals Foaming Shower Gel
*Now I believe this is sold as part of the Ritual Of Ayurveda gift set but from looking around, I think this is the same as the Yogi Flow foaming shower gel when sold individually and that is the description below*
When we hop into the shower first thing in the morning or after an especially tough spin class, we just want to relax - even working up our body wash into a lather sounds like a lot of work. Fortunately, this foaming gel from Rituals does the work for us: It turns into a luxurious foam when it comes into contact with water. All we have to do is smooth it on for a skin-softening clean.
I remember when I first tried the Imperial Leather Foamburst when that first came out and I was absolutely obsessed. I still find using foaming shower gels hilarious and I always end up over using. This particular scent is Indian Rose and Sweet Almond oil and I love rose so I can't wait to start using it.

I chose this as I have wanted to try Rituals for ages and it is always handy to have a selection of travel-size products handy so you don't need to make the trip to Boots or Superdrug every time you go on a trip!

Bumble and bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer
Your hairdresser’s secrets are no longer a mystery with this multi-functional pre-styling mist. The protective primer - infused with six lightweight oils - not only detangles, de-frizzes, and defends against heat damage, but it also makes dry, coarse hair easy to style and tames flyaways. It’s amazing how something so “invisible” can make you stunningly visible.
I use two hairdryers and a straightener pretty much every time I dry my hair - that's a lot of heat. Any hair product that is going to protect my hair and help with styling I am always keen to try. Supposedly this will protect against heat damage, and help style and tame flyaways on dry coarse hair - which I have.

Bumble and bumble is very popular within the blogging community so I am very excited to try something out. I know a lot of people love the Surf spray but with my hair, it is not needed.

If you have ever wanted to try Birchbox, I think that a visit to the pop-up shop is a great way to get a flavour of what you would be getting every month.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and like in all my normal Birchbox posts, if you have ever tried any of these products, please let me know your thoughts in the comments!
