October Birchbox: Feeling Good

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and for this month's box, Birchbox UK are working with the charity CoppaFeel. CoppaFeel is an incredible charity whose mission is to stamp out late detection of breast cancer. CoppaFeel was founded in 2009 by Kris Hallenga and her sister Maren. Kris was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer at 23, she did not know that breast cancer could affect people in their twenties and had little knowledge about the disease. Sadly Kris' cancer is incurable and she will always live with cancer but she wanted to spread the message about how catching cancer early means a higher chance of survival and for people to be more pro-active about their health. This is when CoppaFeel was born!

ModelCo Contour Stick
It couldn't be easier to achieve natural-looking definition with this creamy formula. The lightweight texture glides over bare skin and make-up to accentuate cheekbones and define your fave features
I have really been getting into my contouring recently and at the moment, I have only be using powders. Although I really am enjoying my Rimmel contour shade, it will be interesting to see if I can work with a cream contour and if I prefer it. I have tested it out on my hand already and it is easy to blend but it might be too warm for some skin-tones, and too light for others.

Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash
Wave goodbye to make-up and grime, without stripping your skin of moisture, with this 99% natural cleanser. Spruce knot extract helps to decongest while refreshing grapefruit and frankincense soothes and re-balances your complexion
Balance Me products have appeared in a few of my Birchboxes and I do like the brand. Having a couple of different face washes to use on rotation will be great so my skin does not get used to one formula. I am looking forward to using this as it won't be drying on the skin due to the natural formula.

Anatomicals Grab Your Melons Shower Gel
What better time to look after yourself than in the shower? This zesty body wash cares for your skin and uplifts your mood so you're all set!
First off, I think the name is hilarious and really fits with the collaboration with CoppaFeel. I will probably keep this to use in my travel-bag, I am off to Manchester towards the end of the month so this is very handy! Our boxes also included a sticker to keep in the shower with how to check your breasts as they recommend it is a good time to check whilst in the shower.

R + Co Badlands Dry Shampoo Paste
Transform second day hair with this innovative formula! It's brimming with Hawaiian volcanic ash to cleanse your scalp, zeolite powder to absorb excess oil and volumise, and a whole host of natural oils to leave your hair feeling soft
I am really intrigued to try this. Dry shampoos are great for allowing a few extra days before your hair needs a wash and also for styling. I have heard of solid dry shampoo formulas but not tried one so it will be interesting to see how it works in comparison to the 'normal' dry shampoo formulation. It says that you can also use it on damp hair before blow-drying to increase volume but as I already have pretty thick hair, I think I will just use it on dry hair.

Whish Coconut Milk Body CC Cream
Restore summer's forgotten glow to your skin with this luxurious lotion. Rich in antioxidants, this cream formula hydrates dry patches with organic aloe and shea butter while a hint of bronze adds a sun-kissed shimmer.
Now it's a bit of a shame that I have received this when the weather is starting to get cold, so I don't think I will use it that much, particularly on the legs as I spend much time with my arms and legs out. I will definitely keep this for the future when it starts to get warm again and I can look sun-kissed even if we don't get another proper summer!

All the October boxes included some information about how to check your breasts and I thought I would include it into this post for non-Birchbox subscribers:

How To Check Your Breasts
  • Look for swelling in your armpit or around collar bone
  • Feel for lumps and thickening
  • Look for nipple inversion (turned in) and changes in direction
  • Feel constant pain in your breast or armpit
  • Look for a rash or crusting of the nipple or surrounding area
  • Look for a change in size and shape
  • Look for changes in skin texture, eg. puckering or dimpling
  • Look for nipple discharge
If you would like to recieve free monthly reminders from CoppaFeel, text BOOBS to 70300 (UK only and your standard network rate applies to the first text when signing up but everything after is free.) Here is a link to CoppaFeel's website for more information.

Here are some further links to cancer support websites if anyone would like any more information on awareness and support:

I hope you enjoyed this month's post and I hope all the information on breast cancer awareness is helpful and please spread this information with all the women (and men - breast cancer can occur in them too) so hopefully, we can do more to fight against cancer. Also if you have tried any of the products, please leave your thoughts below I would love to know!

Ellyn xx
