My Skincare Routine

I have mentioned before on this blog that I used to be terrible at looking after my skin. When I was teenager, because I never had a problem with acne, skincare was never something I really got into because I thought I did not need it. This lack of care has caused my skin to become dehydrated and that is now the priority in my skincare routine. I also do not drink as much water as I should so that doesn't help either. Another priority for myself when it comes to having a routine is speed. When I started doing some temporary work last year, I ended up abandoning my skincare routine because it was taking too long and I was getting lazy. Now I have not only found a routine that works for me in terms of time, but it includes products that will always stay.

My evening skincare routine tends to remove all my makeup so my morning routine tends to be very simple. At the moment I tend to use a few different cleansers to wash my face: The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. All three cleansers are good but I don't really love all of them. Sometimes after cleansing I will use some of the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 1.0 on a cotton pad. I always wait after a few minutes between cleansing and the rest of my routine and this is often when I'll brush my teeth!

After that I follow up with two pumps of the Superdrug Simply Pure Hydrating Serum which I have raved about on the blog a few times now. I then use whatever moisturiser I am using. At the moment I am finishing up the Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Light Moisturiser. Again, I don't love or hate this product so I am mainly using it just to get through it. However, recently I have been using it in conjunction with the Douae Me Pure Spring Water Spray which I received in one of my Birchboxes and I am finding that I like it much more. I first lightly spray my face with the water and then apply the moisturiser straight over. Now I don't know this is actually getting more hydration into the skin but it feels like it!

If I am wearing makeup, I will start off removing my eye makeup with the Marcelle Gentle Make-Up Remover which I mentioned in my five favourites from March post. It tends to remove all my makeup including mascara. It does leave an oily residue on the skin so I always make sure to do a full cleanse of my face after. If I am being good, I remove the rest of my face makeup and clean my dace with the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. I much prefer to use this at night to take off makeup than in the morning. If I am being lazy however, I will use the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water on a cotton pad.

I have never been a fan of moisturisers specifically for use at night as I find they can be really heavy and take a long time to sink into the skin. I have always disliked the feeling of heavy moisturisers on the skin when I go to bed, or on my skin when I am getting dressed after using a body moisturiser. Due to this, I tend to just use another pump of the Superdrug serum as it sinks it very quickly, but it sill feels my skin is getting some good moisture.

So this is my current skin care routine! As I mentioned, I don't really have a cleanser or moisturiser that I really love and any recommendations for hydrating cleansers and moisturisers please comment below! I would love to know! Do you use any of these products and have they worked for you?

  1. I love the look and sound of that Vitamin C cleanser from The Body Shop. I was just in there today in fact. Sounds like you've got a great routine going on!

    1. They have a couple of cleansers/scrubs within the Vit C Range - they all smell amazing! Thank you! Still trying to keep up with it but in the evenings it can be a little tricky as I often just want to go straight to bed haha!
