January Birchbox - Shake Your Pom Poms

My first Birchbox post of 2019! And since November! Whilst I was not going to write up a post, I did intend to at least post it on Instagram. Oh well, starting afresh! I like how this box contrasts with the ‘January Blues’. I also like the idea of ‘shake your pom pom’ to help kick start the new year.. even though we are now half-way through it. I’ve had other items from these brands in previous boxes, so it will be interesting to see how they compare.

CLÄ’ Cosmetics Essence Moonlighter Cushion in Apricot Tinge
Formulated with soothing and nourishing ingredients, the Moonlighter Cushion highlights desired areas with a smooth, illuminating finish – think moonlight glistening on water. Bonus points for the calming cooling sensation!
As I mentioned in my previous post, I prefer a cream-based highlighter or an illuminator than the traditional powder. It just looks more natural and its easier for any makeup novice to apply. I was given the shade Apricot Tinge, and with a quick swatch it seems pretty. Looking forward to giving this a go.

Gentle enough for face and body, this is more than your average bar of soap! Formulated with 98% natural ingredients, this small but mighty bar will cleanse, exfoliate and restore your natural glow.
My youngest sister is always trying to find ways to help the environment, especially with reducing plastic. Whilst in our kitchen we have been reducing our plastic, when it comes to other rooms, there is still quite a lot. It will be interesting to try a solid cleanser as I haven’t yet but it would be great if it works for my skin. Looking after your skin and helping the environment – sounds good to me!

You don’t have to have scalp dryness, irritation, or flakes to reap the benefits of this soothing shampoo. The multi-award-winning formula was created on the basis that a great haircare routine should start with a healthy scalp – and that’s what this delivers! It gently cleanses your scalp to calm irritation and clear product build-up (ideal for styling addicts) and leave your strands shiny and soft. The perfect daily cleanse for all heads!
I’ve tried a few Philip Kingsley hair products and I have liked them so far. I use a lot of styling product on my hair, and I only wash it once a week (thick hair problems) so a shampoo that’s going to give my hair a good sort-out is always good. I also have very dark brown hair so if any dandruff appears, you could easily see it.

When it comes to washing your face, your cleanser will work a lot harder with a sidekick. This dual-texture facial tool helps to remove the dirt, oil, and impurities in your skin – that your hands can’t!
How handy, a cleanser and a cleansing tool in the same box. I think this will be good to make sure all my makeup is fully off, also whilst giving my skin a good clean. It will also be interesting to see if it works differently with other cleansers. It does say you should replace it after 60 days which seems a little bit of a faff.

If you’re looking for maximum volume when it comes to your lashes then this mascara will help you out. Large fibre bristles coat each lash with the carbon back formula to add depth, length, and dimension.
Always like a mascara. Mascaras are the makeup item that we all probably have to replace the most frequently, so to be able to add another to my collection is always handy. I would like to see how this works on its own and paired with other mascaras.

Birchbox Pom Pom Hair Ties
Ponytails, braids, and top knots – when you need to pull your hair back, it’s likely that you do it in a variety of ways. So, why rely on your boring black hair band to tie it up? Inspired by this month’s box theme, these pom pom-topped hair ties add a colourful finishing touch to whatever hairstyle you’re rocking.
Can’t have a pom-pom theme without pom-poms! This are so cute, but I have a lot of hair – these will need to be some sturdy hair bands to last in my hair. However, the bands look a bit thicker than normal decorative bands so they have a chance! I’ve now got a hairband, bag and lipstick to match my favourite red cable-knit sweater. That’s coordination.

So that’s what was in my Birchbox this month! As always if you have tried any of these products before, I would love to hear your thoughts?

What are you doing to shake up your new year?

Ellyn xx
