How I Look After My Skin In The Summer

As the summer continues to arrive, it is important to make sure that you look after your skin. Obviously skincare is important all year round but in the summer, it gets hotter and whilst we all want to enjoy the sun whilst we have it - keeping your skin safe and protected in the heat should be our top priority. Now I will admit that there are some days when I forget about sun protection and there was even one day whilst holidaying in Spain that I spent a whole day sunbathing without sun cream. Amazingly I did not get burnt but I have never forgotten since.

Nivea Sun Protect & Moisture Moisturising Sun Lotion
Obviously sun cream is the most important part of looking after your skin in the summer. Over the years I have used pretty much all the sun cream factors but in the last few years I tend to use factors 10, 15 or 20. Since learning more about the dangers of sun exposure, I do try to use the higher factors especially in the places where I am most likely to burn.

I prefer liquid/cream sun creams as oppose to spray just because I feel like I have more control about where I put the sun cream. I bought the Nivea sun cream on a holiday to Crete and I really liked the formula. I do also like the sun creams from Soltan and Garnier.

Soltan Moisturising Aftersun Lotion
If I do happen to get burnt, aftersun is a must. Burnt skin needs cooling and hydration and even if I get sunburn that isn't too bad yet, I still like to follow up with aftersun. We have used the Soltan formula for many years and it is really good. You can feel the lotion working straight away and I would happily use it as a normal body moisturiser!

The Body Shop Moringa Body Sorbet
Although I am not the best at keeping my body moisturised on the daily, but when I am on holiday I am very vigilant at keeping my skin hydrated, especially after a day in the sun. I am also not a big fan of any heavy body butters or body lotions as I find they take too long to sink in and I hate the feeling of putting clothes on after or going to bed and still feel like the lotion has not sunken in.

The Body Shop body sorbets have answered my prayers when it comes to a body moisturiser that is light, sinks in quickly but keeps my body moisturised. My favourite ‘scent’ is the Fuji Green Tea and I found that it also acted similarly to after sun in terms of the deep hydration. Unfortunately you cannot buy the Fuji Green Tea sorbet in store any more but it is still available online. I have bought the Moringa scent as it has a really nice floral scent and I hope it works just as good – although I think I might purchase Fuji Green Tea still anyway!
So this is how I look after my skin during the summer months and especially when I am on holiday in a hot climate. I cannot reiterate how important it is to look after your skin in the sunny weather.

What do you do to look after your skin? If you have tried any of the products mentioned or have your own favourites I would love to hear about it in the comments!
